ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Hey friends! Welcome to Girls’ Night!

If you missed last week’s episode, I want to catch you up on some exciting news! For all of Season 12, I’m sharing some of my favorite past Girls Night Episodes. These are topics I know we could all use some help navigating right now, and I’m so excited to revisit them together!

With that said, our guest for today’s episode is my sweet friend, TahJah Harmony. Now, if you’ve been around The Girls Night Podcast for a while, you’ve met TahJah. She’s been on the show a couple of times! Aside from being one of my very favorite friends, she’s an amazing lifestyle photographer.

And this week we’re talking about how to get comfortable speaking up for yourself.

This episode is for my fellow people-pleasers, and it's full of the lessons we've been learning the HARD way for how to take up the space that’s ours in the world, how to advocate for ourselves, and how to do so without feeling needy or like a jerk in the process.

Now, I have to be honest: This is a bit of a messy topic for me. This isn't something I'm naturally good at, in fact, this is something I'm naturally really bad at. It's something I've been really working on for years now, something that still doesn't come easy.

But I have a feeling I'm not the only one that struggles with this, and that's why I'm so excited to invite you into the conversation today.

Quotes mentioned:

"When we don't stand up for ourselves in small ways, it's so much harder to do it in big ways." - Stephanie

"When we invalidate our voices or our opinions enough times, we start to forget that they matter." - Stephanie

"By not saying what I need and not speaking up for myself, I think I'm saving the relationship. But the thing is when we keep our thoughts and our opinions down long enough, we start to feel resentful, and resentment kills way more marriages and relationships than a disagreement ever could." - Stephanie

"Take up space that is yours to take up." - Carl Wilson

"Saying what you need is not mean." - Stephanie

"We can love people better when we're taking care of ourselves." - Stephanie

"Sometimes the kindest thing we can give people is an honest no." - Stephanie
